संयोजक त्रिपीठीद्वारा जारी वक्तव्य :

Dear President,

Out of total 1 million plus confirmed cases of Corona virus worldwide, almost 25% confirmed cases are from US alone.

We do not have any official data but somewhere close to 400 – 600 Nepali individuals residing in different parts of US have Corona virus. If these individuals are not brought to isolation, there is no question that this number will multiply significantly. Please note that due to high living cost in cities like New York & San Francisco; most of the Nepalese share their apartments, rooms with other Nepalese. This increases the risk factor of Corona being transferred at very high rate.

Since most of the states are already in lockdown, US is already facing one of the most recorded unemployment cases in its history. No doubt, Nepalese too are affected by this and from other related factors. To name few:

–          Inability of paying house rent/mortgage
–          Insufficient food or no food
–          Very limited or no access to precautionary supplies like masks, hand sanitizers, hand soaps, etc
–          No shelter in place for corona infected individuals as well as no separate place for the families of infected
The “so called” leaders, community leaders, social workers, the social activists and we have very minimal resources to help our own people at the moment. And I personally feel myself very helpless and useless!

I am therefore asking NRN leadership to open their heart for Nepalese residing in US. Rule of the thumb is that we need to promote and protect our constituents as the first priority. “NRN” as name itself pronounces “Non-Resident Nepalese”, we should first be looking for their welfare. Having said this, this completely DOES NOT mean that we do not have responsibility for our motherland. We do and we must.

To start with, I request NRN leadership to sanction at least $25,000 (to the minimum) as the first round of emergency support immediately for Americas Region. This is very very critical that we take this move in right time before we regret in future. At the same time, I urge NRN leadership, please do not limit helping corona victims globally with the fund collected for this purpose only. In such global pandemic, we should open funds from our other projects too, if needed. As they say – if we survive the battle, we win the world!

Thank you!
